It’s been a minute since we’ve gotten some new music from TV and Broadway star Alex Newell, but now the gender-nonconforming artist returns to the dance floor with an uptempo, sassy new single titled Boy, You Can Keep It.
I immediately fell in love with the song the moment I heard, it, because I am a sucker for a big dance diva track, and it takes on the topic that material things aren’t everything. “Material things aren’t everything in a relationship,” Newell said in a statement released with the new track. “They aren’t how you measure love. I’m saying, ‘I don’t need everything that you think I do.’ I’m looking for something you can’t monetize. I want something real.”
My only complaint about the track is that it’s too damn short. Definitely looking forward to hearing the extended remixes of this. There’s no oword on if BYCKI is the kick off for a new EP or album (his debut EP came out in 2016), but here’s hoping with so much good music coming out this year from so many queer artists that Alex will follow suit.
